In which palace queens wail for exiled Rāma while fires die, planets menace, citizens despair, and bereft Ayōdhyā quakes
Palace queens cry where goes our refuge — Queens praise Rāma angerless consoler of all — Queens call king senseless for exiling Rāma — Fire rites cease and sun veils itself — Elephants cast food and cows withhold milk — Planets turn cruel and stars lose luster — Citizens abandon food play and joy — All Ayōdhyā thinks only of Rāma — Bereft Ayōdhyā quakes like Indra-less earth
