In which Rāma lops a hundred new heads from Rāvaṇa in vain and puzzles over his dulled arrows as battle burns ceaselessly
Both chariots wheel and shower arrow nets — Rāma drives back Rāvaṇa's four horses — Rāvaṇa wounds Rāma and Mātali without effect — Rāma showers Rāvaṇa's chariot with thousands of arrows — Earth trembles and gods pray for Rāma — Rāma beheads Rāvaṇa again and again — New heads rise and a hundred fall in vain — Rāma wonders at his dulled arrows — Both rain weapons through night without pause
